Rescuing Sinking Barge

Rescuing Sinking Barge
U.S.A.

In San Francisco at Hunter's Point, a shipping barge began to sink until it was almost 95% submerged. The barge owner contracted a local pump company to pump the barge empty. After 6 weeks of pumping the barge was not only still submerged but had also managed to be completely turned upside down.

After considerable time and expense, the owner contacted a local Tsurumi Pump Distributor located in Oakland. Six 15kW (20Hp) model KRS-815 pumps with suction adaptor were mounted to the barge access hatches.

It took eight hours to raise the barge completely. After the barge had been raised, customer used six 3.7kW (5Hp) model KTV2-37 pumps; one each of the six barge compartments for final drainage. Utilizing the Tsurumi pump design: the customer 's cost was 1/3 of what he had previously spent, trying to raise the barge.
